Optimizing a website for the mobile audiences

May 11th, 2010

Mobile communication is no longer something that most webmasters aren’t familiar with. In fact, webmasters may find themselves having visitors from mobile phones and it is best to optimize their sites to suit the mobile audiences.

A good way of doing this is by creating a whole new section for mobile phones. If the site is being run with a CMS such as Joomla or Wordpress, the task gets very easy but a static website may find it hard to be turned into a mobile website. Websites such as Wapple should help users integrate their websites for mobile purposes.

In addition to that, a good mobile website should have no flash available. This is because this feature isn’t supported in a lot of mobile phones and the iPhone is a good example of one. Any flash based page should be turned to a fully HTML website. However, with a Verizon iPhone coming out, expect users with high speed. Things may change with an iPhone 4g or the iPhone HD but on the mean time, stay out of Flash

Go against a framed website. They would look horrible in a mobile phone due to the constraint in the screen size. Try using AJAX instead or create a unique content instead of taking it from another website.

Try browsing the website first hand using a mobile phone and if everything looks great, then users will find little to no problem with the mobile website.

Creating a random blog post to start conversations with the reader

May 11th, 2010

Some blogs may not have a forum or a chatroom where people can get together and talk. However, what they do have is a platform to start a conversation through the posts that they make. Conversations can take place through comments and counter-comments by the reader and the writer. In fact, websites such as ZDNet have a section called the Talkback just for this particular purpose.

The first move to loosen the audience a bit is by creating a post that isn’t related to the website. Make it just a random post or something that the writer has been thinking about. For example, if the writer is an avid gamer, why not talk about the games technology? Talk about future console releases such as the Playstation 4 and how the PS4 will have new features such as 3D or so.

If the writer wishes, he or she can relate the random post to something that is related to the website. If the website is about making money, then talk about how companies will make money out of these products and/or how the readers can make money as well.

Think creatively and think outside the box. That is the sole factor that will make a website stands out.

Talking about the football with the audience

May 11th, 2010

In some places, it is known as football while others know it as soccer. The game doesn’t stack up to a hundred points and most of the time, three may be the maximum goals a team may get in any single game. Football is one of the most sought after games in the world with some of its members making millions per week.

Each country has its own leagues and some of these are well respected in the football arena. The Italian league is an example of such a premier league. The Serie A hosts some of the best football clubs in the world such as the AC Milan, Palermo and many others. Players from these clubs can be called the cream of the crop in the football world.

The Serie B on the other hand hosts less famous teams such as Lecce, Cesena and a lot more. However, these themes are still given coverage by the press although not as much as the Serie A teams. Games played by these teams are somewhat okay but not as good as the Serie A but every once in a while, viewers may be in shock of their skills.
