DMOZ or the open directory project is one of the most famous directories on the Internet. Websites approved by the DMOZ have a chance to rank high in the search engine as well as an increase in its selling value.

With a page ranking of 7, it is one of the highest ranking directories on the Internet. Inclusion to the site definitely helps in search engine optimization of any website. This is simply because the back link that a person gets from DMOZ is some of the highest quality available.

DMOZ offers a wide range of categories to choose from such as arts, business, computers and many more. Websites of languages aside of English can also be placed at its World category. In here, they offer a wealth of categories from languages such as Afrikaans to Ukrainian.

However, getting included in DMOZ is quite hard. The editors are more often than not picky at what the websites have to offer. More often than not, websites that are unique will gain inclusion to the directory while sites that are copied from others do not.

In addition to that, DMOZ also has a guideline for adding sites. Therefore, it is best to comply with them if a webmaster is interested in getting back links from this infamous directory. Those that are interested to become an editor can also apply through its site.

All in all, DMOZ is certainly one of the best directories to go to. However, those that do not get included can either try again after a few months or focus on getting back links from other directories. Bear in mind that search engine optimization is not only about getting back links from DMOZ but from other related websites.
