Want to target SEO based on local? Read this before you do

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Some people do not want a website that targets the whole world but instead, they want to focus to only parts of the world or country. This may be useful for local businesses that are too small to even care getting noticed by the whole world because there is no point for doing so.

One way of doing this is to incorporate keywords about the local area. For example, if a dentist in London wishes to create a website, be sure to have the keyword London dentist in the meta tags and the title if possible. This is so that whenever a person searches this particular keyword, the site will rank high for it.

In addition to that, some suggest to host the website in the country that the webmaster wishes to target. As for the London dentist example, the webmaster can host the website in a server located in the United Kingdom instead of one in the United States.

Try getting a high ranking in the local Google Maps as it will definitely help. There are ways of achieving this and a quick search on Google will tell you how to do it.

E-commerce SEO for small and big businesses alike

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

The thing about e-commerce is that there aren’t many contents available that the search engine can index on. In this case, there are ways to make the SEO a success but it takes a lot of effort from both the webmaster and the store owner.

One important factor to keep in mind is to have SEO friendly URLs. What is meant by SEO friendly URLs are links that would be easy for search engines to crawl on. Do not use a dynamic link but instead, use static links. In the URL of any pages, be sure to have keywords inside it rather than having it jumbled up as numbers or nonsensical links.

The other thing to bear in mind is to have a long product description and be as precise as possible about the product. What this does is that it gives to the search engine a wide range of keywords that the search engine can look on in the webpage. This makes sure that the website ranks over a wide range of keywords instead of just a few.

Do remember to use fill in the alt images form. Search engines do not read images therefore the alt tag helps the search engine know what the image is all about. A lot of big websites manage to rank well due to the alt tags.

What are the chances of getting away from using paid links?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

The people behind Google have mentioned this for quite some time: sites that have paid links can get penalized easily. However, how close is this from the truth? Not a large number of websites are caught using paid links which makes us ponder this question: what are the chances of getting away from using paid links?

Paid links has been online for ages and there are no questions on how well they work. Even on competitive keywords, paid links have proved to work. Google hasn’t been taking strict action about this though. This made a lot of other websites become bold and use paid links to garner backlinks which in turn makes them rank well in the search engine results page.

As mentioned before, Google hasn’t been taking any serious action against people that have a few paid links. As a precaution, try making page links a small amount of the total number of links that the website has. For example, if the website has 100 links, make sure that no more than 10% (or 10 in this case) of the links are paid. That way, Google will not take them so seriously.
