Ranking Well in YahooRanking Well in YahooYahoo is commonly known as Google’s archrival and its position as the 2nd Most Used Search Engine is a living proof that it is. Ranking well in Yahoo is just as important as ranking well in Google. This is because if a site is optimized for both Google and Yahoo, there will definitely be a significant increase in visitors.

Search engine optimization or SEO in Yahoo is quite similar as compared with Google. However, there are some minor differences that the site owner may need to alter. Do note that this alteration will not coincide with the ranking in Google. In fact, some of these may also help increase the ranking in Google as well.

Like most search engine, Yahoo determines the ranking of a site based on its backlinks. Quality backlinks will definitely help with the SEO. One way of achieving this is by posting the desired sites to web directories. There are practically thousands of directories that are available in the Internet and it is recommended that the submission process take place at a slow interval so that it would not be considered as spamming.

New websites are often given less priority during its first few months. In Google, a website may be stuck in its ‘sandbox’ for as long as half a year. Yahoo, however, has a less strict policy against new websites but nonetheless applies the same method as Google. Therefore, it is recommended to buy aged domains instead of registering new ones.

The structure of the sites bears little importance for Google but for Yahoo, it does make significant difference. Complying with the W3C standards will boost ranking greatly on Yahoo. Sites having this will also increase the rankings in other search engines as well. So, doing so is definitely a plus.
